Seeking Thornton surname males: Thornton son born of a Thornton surname father.
Not all Thornton groups are respectfully identified at THORNTON surname DNA project via FTDNA “approximately 10 subgroups of R1-THORNTONs can be identified at this time. This still leaves approximately one-third of the individuals unmatched!”
With over 200 participants, there are 5 different Haplogroups represented. The primary group represented is deemed “Virginia-A.”
My line is said to NOT be of the popular “Virginia-A” group with some of their names being William, Henry, Thomas, and Luke. These were the sons of Roger, Henry, Thomas.
The Thornton line in which I am specifically looking for DNA participants, descend from Thomas Thornton, the Quaker, who d. 1762 Perquimans NC.
This Thomas Thornton line is likely represented as “Group E (South Carolina),” with 7 supposed names of descendants.
I beg you to please consider Y-DNA testing at FTDNA with either the Y-111 or Big Y-700 .
If you have a financial concern over paying for either of the above tests, please contact me. Thank you.
DNA Results R-CTS2187
24 Jan 2024. The Y-DNA “Big Y-700” Haplogroup for my second cousin has posted: R-CTS2187.
DNA Results R-Y16002
3 Feb 2024. The Y-DNA “Big Y-700” has been updated from R-CTS2187 to R-Y16002.
Currently, #1005148 and #436250 are Haplogroup R-Y16002.
My second cousin, #1005148, descends from Eli Thornton 1806-1874 (99.99% confidence). #436250, descends from Richard Thornton 1790-1862.
Both #1005148 and #436250 have 5 unmatched Private Variants. I have it on reliable authority that “the Big Y-700 specialist will have to name these matched Private Variants now as SNP’s.”
So, either the new SNP will match both Thornton males or one will have a SNP slightly different from the other.
