Greetings

The quest to identify my forebearer’s has gone on for more than 35 years. Some “brickwalls” have been broken, and some are slow to fall. The Thorntons of my line that I am confident of, begins with Thomas Thornton who died in Perquimans, North Carolina during 1762 and his wife Martha. Both were members of the religious organization known as “Friends” (Quakers).

Eli Thornton, the son of Thomas and Martha Thornton, removed from the County of Orange NC, to Edgefield South Carolina, and died about 1815.

My great-great grandfather Eli Thornton, 1806-1874 Abbeville SC (wife, Rebecca Rachel McComb). His father’s identity (? Thornton) remains undetermined but he is likely the son of Eli (abt. 1754-1815) and likely died before 1820.

And my great-grandfather Eli Thornton (1858 -1925), the husband of Annie Isabel Brown. Eli, Annie and their children removed from Abbeville to Texas. Both are buried at Eastview Memorial Park, in Vernon Texas.

  • Thomas and Martha Thornton
  • Eli Thornton (abt. 1754-1815)
  • __  Thornton (abt. 1785-1820)
  • Eli Thornton (1806-1874)
  • Eli Thornton (1858-1925)

My goal is to not only post facts from historical records but to discuss possible conclusions. A while back, I realized that in order to try and figure out my Thorntons, I had to also research other Thornton branches, which over time, will also be posted.

Whichever Thornton line you may identify with, I welcome your comments.

Jennifer Thornton
